William Deibert Dead
In the death of William Deibert which occurred at his home in East Hoxie last Thursday morning, this community has lost an interesting character.
For many years he has resided in Hoxie and has been a familiar figure on our streets, laughing and chatting with his host of friends, being always jolly and cheerful.
The writer has known him for several years and in him he never had a better friend and with him he has had many a pleasant chat, and a bit of sadness creeps over him as he pens these lines, to note that his old friend is no more. But death should not be shrouded in gloom and sadness; it is as natural as tis the flowers to bloom or the birds to sing, it's a part of the divine plan. And the winter's blast of death must precede the budding of life anew in the spring time of a new world. Thus passes a kind and affectionate father, a good neighbor and a public spirited citizen.
Obituary
William Deibert was born in Morrow county, Ohio, October 31, 1837 and departed this life at Hoxie, Kansas, January 11, 1917, age 79 years, 2 months and 10 days.
The deceased was married to Miss Charlotte A. Hart in 1859 (this is wrong I have a copy of the marriage record Thomas Corey a 2nd great grandson) and he and his bride moved from his native state to Illinous where they remained for two years and then moved to Iowa where they resided until 1901 when they moved to this county and settled near Hoxie. To this union were born twelve children seven of whom survive him. The wife passed from her earthly life in 1909.
He always led an active life and was engaged in the nursery business for many years while living in Iowa.
He joined the United Brethren church early in life and died a faithful member of the M. E. church of Hoxie to which he always contributed liberally of his means to support.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. Cox and Rev. Humphrey and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. Interment was made in the Hoxie cemetary.
He leaves to mourn, his departure seven children, Burr, Bert, Corwin, William, and Mrs. Ida Murphy of Redding, Iowa and Mrs. Elma Harris of Pasadena, California, who were all in attendance at the funeral except Mrs. Harris.
