Mrs. Smith Dead

After a long illness, an illness that stole away her strength several years ago and had made her a prisoner in her room for may weary months, Mrs. Martha Virginia Smith, wife of our townsman, Mr. N. B. Smith, passed peacefully to the other shore, where there is no pain or death, Tuesday afternoon.

Hers was a long, wearying illness and she suffered more than those of us who still linger upon time's shores can know, but the end was peaceful, death coming to her as sleep to "one who lies down to pleasant dreams."

Mrs. Smith's maiden name was Martha Virginia Beachamp; she was born in Elkton, Ky., in 1848, and was in her sixty-third year when called from her labors to rest.

She was married to N. B. Smith in 1865 and moved with him to Honey Grove about forty years ago.

In earlier life she enjoyed splendid health, but more than a decade ago her health began to fail, and slowly, but surely her life was yielded to the destroyer.

Mrs. Smith had been a member of the Baptist church for many years, and was regular in attendance upon the services of the sanctuary and active in all the work of her church while her health permitted. She died in the triumphs of a Christian's faith.

The funeral service was conducted Wednesday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. Bonnie Grimes, and the earthly tabernacle was laid to rest under the trees of Oakwood, where many friends had gathered to pay their last respects.

The husband, children and grand children, and all who mourn because she is no more, have our deepest sympathy.
