W. Marshall Boll, 86, of North U.S. 31, died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 3:45 a.m. at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mr. Boll was a member of First Christian Church where he had served as a former deacon. He retired from farming in 1982. A 1940 graduate of Columbus High School, serving as Vice President of the Class of 1940, he helped plan the 25, 35, 40, 50 and 55-year class reunions. He was a past member of Harrison Lake Country Cub and Modern Farmers of Bartholomew County and was a lifetime member of Bartholomew County Historical Society.

He was a member of Indiana Farm Bureau, served on the Board of Directors of Bartholomew County Farm Bureau and was Past Secretary and Chairman of German Township Farm Bureau. He served on the Farmers Marketing Board of Directors 14 years and also served as Treasurer of the Board. Mr. Boll was on the Producers Marketing Association Board of Directors. He served as a member and president of the Bartholomew County Extension Board and was Chairman of the Bartholomew county Agriculture Stabilization Committee for one year.

Mr. Boll received the Q.G. Noblitt Conservation award in 1972. He was a member of German Township Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors and had served as president. He was a member of the Bartholomew County REMC Board and had served as Treasurer and Vice President and also had served on the Hoosier Energy Board. Mr. Boll served on the Bartholomew County Planning Commission 8 years and was past chairman of the Commission.

The funeral will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street with the Rev. Richard J. Yeaton officiating. Calling will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or the donor's choice of charities.

Mr. Boll was born September 12, 1922, in German Township, Bartholomew County, the son of Jesse L. and Ethel Marr Boll. He married E. Eileen Armstrong August 10, 1947, at First Christian Church with T.K. Smith presiding.

Survivors include his wife, of Columbus; a granddaughter, Heather C. (Ryan) Webster; great-grandchildren, Braydon and Mallory Webster, of Pendleton; and a niece, Mary A. Boll of Champaign, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Wayne Boll; a brother, Herschel L. Boll; and a nephew, John A. Boll.
