Mrs. Robert J. Scott
Sad Death of Pioneer and Highly Respected Citizen

Catherine A. Lomax was born at Abbington, Ill., May 27, 1853. In childhood she moved with her parents to Iowa and later to Sheridan, Mo. At this place she was united in marriage to R.J. Scott, January 21, 1871. Here they resided until 1879, when they came to Furnas county, where she made her home until the time of her
death. To this union were born seven children, all of whom survive her, with the exception of Corinthia, who died in infancy. In childhood she gave her heart to Christ, and has been true to her profession during these many years of her discipleship. She united with the Beaver City Christian church in 1892, and was a member of that fellowship at the time of her death.

She was also an active member of the W.R.C. of this place. She was a kind neighbor and a true Christian. She was a great lover of her home and found her highest joy in ministering to the comfort and happiness of her loved ones. She entered into her eternal rest January 31, 1914, being 60 years 8 months and 4 days of age. When the Master came to receive her immortal spirit, her husband, all of her children, two brothers and one aunt were at her bedside. Lovingly did they follow her into the Valley, and graciously did the great Shepherd receive her
into that land where there is no sickness or pain or tears, and where God shall be her eternal light, for “there shall be no light there; they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord giveth them light, and they shall reign forever and ever. She leaves a husband, six children, as follows: Mrs. J.D. Spears of Beaver City; Mrs. Charles Kellogg of Hendley; Glenn Scott of North Platte; Mrs. George Bryant, of Weskan, Kans., and Misses Della and Carrie of Beaver City; four brothers, four sisters and fifteen grandchildren. The funeral services took place from the Christian church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. J.W. Pressly, assisted by Rev. T.E. Smith, Interment was at Mount Hope cemetery. The very large attendance at the funeral service is a true index of the high esteem in which she was held in this community, friends who had come to pay their last tribute to one whom they had loved.
