Temple Dean Henry

Temple Dean Henry, age 82, of Pleasanton, Texas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 9, 2009. Temple was the youngest of four children born to David Milton and Mattie Wilson Henry of Charlotte, Texas on November 1, 1926. After graduation from Charlotte High School, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After an honorable discharge from the Navy at the end of World War II, he entered Texas A & I College in Kingsville, Texas. During his junior year, he met and married Gertrude Louise Friesenhahn of LaCoste, Texas on September 4, 1948.

Following his graduation from Texas A& I, he began his teaching career in Gregory-Portland as a Vocational Agriculture teacher. After teaching for 5 years at Gregory-Portland High School, he accepted the Vocational Agriculture job at Sinton High School where he taught for 14 years. While there, he returned to A & I and acquired his Masters and Administrator's degree in Education. After receiving these degrees, he accepted the high school principal job at Natalia, Texas and after serving there for 5 years, he accepted the high school principal position at Mathis, Texas. While there, his daughter, Karen, a junior in high school, passed away after being diagnosed with leukemia. After her death, the family moved to Jourdanton, Texas where he became the high school principal and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1980. He then persued his love for raising cattle and helped the family take care of his aging mother. His oldest daughter, Diane, who was living in Dallas, passed away following a lengthy illness at the age of 49. Temple loved to fish and hunt with his grandsons and he loved cattle and working on his farm. Besides losing two of his beloved daughters during his lifetime, he was also preceded in death by a grand daughter, Elizabeth Diane Ciavarra and brothers Delbert and Wilson Henry and their wives his one sister Louise Carlisle and her husband, JD and his sister-in-law, Evelyn Bippert.

Temple was a member of the United Methodist Church all of his life and he served in various capacities.
