George Washington Robertson was born in Buffalo Gap, Taylor County, Texas, to Nathan Andrew Robertson and his first wife, Annie Jane Wilson. George's mother died about 1878 when he was still a toddler. Nathan, being left with three small children, enlisted the aid of his parents, and the small family appears with Nathan's parents, Joseph and Lucinda Chambers Robertson on the 1880 Census in Eastland, Texas (ED 174; Pg 318-B). Nathan re-married days before Christmas of 1883 and shortly thereafter moved his new family to the open frontier of the Indian and Oklahoma Territories. Nathan and his second family are found on the 1900 Census in Moore Township, Pottawatomie County, but George, by then age 24, had already struck out on his own.

According to family records (the location of which is unknown as of 2010), George married a Miss Linnie Crooks (maiden name Hines). However, it is unknown whether this marriage occurred during his youth or in his old age.

At age 26, George married Ellen Euretta Chambers on 18 Sept 1902 in Erath County, Texas. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Oklahoma. They are listed with three of their children on the 1910 Census in Moore Township, Pottawatomie County (ED 217; Pg 14-A), where George's father and step-mother and half-siblings still resided. When the growing European conflict required more American men to register for the draft in 1918, George registered in Oklahoma City, but he and Ellen and family were living in Forest Township, Pottawatomie County as the 1920 Census (ED 219; Pg 2-B).

The 1920s proved to be a difficult decade as Ellen appears with their 3 sons as a divorced head of household in Oklahoma City on the 1930 Census (Ward 2; ED 57; Pg 12-A) and then on the 1940 Census in Bethany of Oklahoma County (Ward 4; ED 55-1; Pg 31-A; Family 74) as a "widow" with 2 grandchildren (after her and George's youngest daughter passed away).
