THE DEES FAMILY, By Miss Audna Booth and Phillip Dees

"Daniel Dees was reared in Monroe County, Ga., where he was born on March 10, 1810. He moved from Georgia to Alabama, where he remained a few years. In 1850 he moved to Arkansas, and settled near Calhoun, on the present home place. He died in 1897.
There were nine children---five boys and four girls, as follows: Scott, Wash, John, Billie and Bryant, and Sallie, Martha, Alabama and Lucy. Four of the boys served in the Confederate army, Scott was too young for the regular army, but served in the Home Guards in 1865. He died in 1920. Bryant, the oldest, volunteered early in 1861 and served with Company B, 3rd Cavalry (Forrest's Command). He died April 12, 1907. Billie and John died in the service, the latter being killed in action. Wash Dees was born October 29, 1852, and is the only one of the nine children living. There were 35 grandchildren, and all are living.
Mr. Dees had the distinction of having voted for every Democratic presidential nominee from Jackson to Bryan.
The father of Daniel Dees migrated to the United States from the Old World."
