He was united in marriage to Belle Davis on March 6, 1910 and to this union was born 8 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters. Velma preceded him in death. The rest are left to mourn his departure.
Surviving are Basil Bates of Alton, Missouri, Utah Bates of Decatur, Illinois, Gene and Bobby Bates of Bardley, Missouri, Mary Williams of Manchester, Illinois, Imogene Sharp and Mildred Carter, both of Springfield, Illinois; 22 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters and one brother, Mrs. Nerva Palmer of Alton, Missouri, Mrs Elizabeth Bryant of Pine Bluff, Arkansas and Rev. Perry Bates of Bardley, Missouri. Also a host of other relatives and friends.
Lucas Bates was very active in life , was blessed with health until the past few months. He was a child of God and is resting in the arms of Jesus.
The funeral services were held on September 27, 1959 at 2:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church at Bardley, Missouri with Rev. C. R. Walker, pastor of the Assembly of God Church of Koshkonong, officiating, with burial at Bardley Cemetery, under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer, Missouri.
Pallbearers were: Robert Arnold, John Pulizos, Joe Carter, Arthur T. Warren, Mack Warren, and Estus L. Bates.
Lucas and Belle were the parents of another daughter, Mary Lee Bates Williams. I have requested the contributor of Mary Lee's Memorial numerous times to add her parents Memorial numbers but she refuses to do so.
