NAPPANEE -- W. Dale Christner, 92, of Nappanee, died at 10:20 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 8, 2009) at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Dec. 11, 1916, in Elkhart County to Orange Eugene and Leona (Wagner) Christner. On July 13, 1940, he married Cathern Slabaugh.

She survives, along with one son, John (Judy) Christner of Middlebury; two grandsons; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Clouse.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee, and one hour prior to the 2:30 p.m. service Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Nappanee. The Rev. Terry Tyler of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be at Hepton Union Cemetery.

Mr. Christner was a Mason, a former Wa-Nee School Board member, and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis and Nappanee American Legion Post 154. He was a graduate of Nappanee High School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He retired from Christner Oil Company.

Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church.
