Marjorie Herbold
Marjorie Aileen Cross Herbold, 86, of Newton, formerly of Baxter, died on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at her home at Park Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter with the Rev. Rollie Watters officiating. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. A private family burial will be at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Memorials to the Park Centre Good Samaritan Fund or the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Ervin D. and Meta (Goeke) Bollhoefer, she was born on April 26, 1922, in rural Laurel. Marjorie graduated from Baxter High School. She lived in Baxter and Newton and was united in marriage to Clifford WH Cross, who died in 1990, and later she married Joseph Herbold, who passed away in 2005.

Marjorie was the head cashier at State Savings Bank in Baxter for more than 35 years. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Women of the Moose, EverReady Club and the Women's Church Group. She was the City Clerk of Baxter and Baxter Citizen of the Year. Marjorie enjoyed flowers, gardening, birds, doing crafts and collecting Hummels. She was a loving and caring person.

Survivors include one son, Darrell (Kay) Cross of Des Moines; two daughters, Diane Hansen of Ames and Susan (Dennis) Mooers of Carlisle; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene Orr of Marshalltown and Carolyn Bollhoefer of Minnetonka, Minn.; and one brother-in-law, Richard (Bev) Cross of Baxter.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Clifford WH Cross; her second husband, Joseph Herbold; a brother, Robert Bollhoefer; and son-in-law, Denny Hansen.
