Robert "Bud" Balstad, age 81, of rural Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday (June 27th) at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (July 2nd) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (July 1st) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston.

Robert Gene Balstad was born on January 25, 1926 in rural Fosston, Minnesota to parents Rudolph and Ida (Galaason) Balstad. He grew up on the family farm south of Fosston, the oldest of five children, attending school through the eighth grade. He was baptized on March 20, 1926 and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston on June 29, 1941.

Bud was united in marriage to Juanita Kroening on June 25, 1954. Following their marriage, they resided on their family farm southwest of Fosston. To this union, five children were born. Bud retired from active farming in 1994.

He was a long time member of Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston and was a member of the Eagles Club in Thief River Falls. He liked fishing, traveling and watering the various plants throughout the house.

Robert "Bud" Balstad passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at his home in Rosebud Township at the age of 81 years.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita of rural Fosston; two sons, Timothy (Joanne) of Fosston, and Robert Jr. (Peggy) of Red Lake Falls, MN; three daughters, Susan Skaro (Dave Reuer) of Milnor, ND, Irene (Dwight) Johnson of Crookston, MN, and Pamela (Scott) Hale of Barksdale, LA; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Mitzi) Balstad of Fosston; one sister, Marilyn (Darol) Melby of Bagley, MN; and one aunt, Ruth Crum of Seattle, WA. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph "Boots" and Ida; one daughter, Carol Jean; one son, Gene Robert; one great grandchild, Kami Jo; and two sisters, Marjorie Olson and Maggie Hoyt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Bud's grandchildren and great grandchildren Active Pallbearers will be Rick Balstad, Scott Balstad, Leroy Colsen, Elton Hilliard, Mitch Hilliard, and Mike Kroening.
