Funeral services for John B Atkinson, retired Van Vleet farmer, who died at 7 p.m., April 18, at his home, were conducted from the Houston Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 20, with the Rev. Hugh Collins, the Rev. Bob Mathis, and the Rev. Bobby Hankins officiating. He was 78.
Interment was in the Houston Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry Carter, Dan Carter, Jerry Jernigan, George Tucker, H. D. McMorrow, and Joe Ware.
Mr. Atkinson had been in failing health for several years. A native of Chickasaw County, he was born July 17, 1890, the son of John L. Atkinson and Mattie Davis Atkinson. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Atkinson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosalie Hinton Atkinson of Van Vleet; a sister, Mrs. Doyle Stubblefield of Houston and a brother, Irby Atkinson of Van Vleet.
