Doouglas Eugene Hvinden was born at Maddock, ND on May 3, 1942 to Oscar and Solvig (Sogge) Hvinden. He was raised in Maddock, attending grade school and graduated from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at maddock in 1960. He entered the US Army in August of 1969, served in Germany and was discharged in 1968. Douglas was employed in law enforcement from 1969 to 1974 serving as a police officer in Devils lake and Dickinson and later as chief of police in Turtle Lake. In March of 1974, he entered the US Navy as a Seabee, serving in California, Austrailia, Hawaii, Washington and Alaska. Douglas was discharged in 1988 as a Petty Officer First Class, but remained active in the Naval Fleet Reserve until 1995. He returned to law enforcement as a deputy sheriff in Washburn, ND from 1988 to 1991. Douglas then moved to Littleton, CO and was a lieutenant in charge of securities at Eldon Security Field Operation in Aurora, CO. Douglas moved to Maddock in 2002 for care for his parents. He was once married to Sally Rice.
Douglas enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, playing cards and spending time with his family. He was a member of the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, National Rifle Association and the North Dakota Law Enforcement Council.
Surving are son Clint Hvinden of Fargo, ND, daughter Shirlene (Darin) McKinnon of Delano, MN, significant other Mary Kay Feig of Maddock, mother, of Harvey, ND, siblings Marlan (Nancy) Hvinden of Petersburg, ND, Gerald (Nancy) Hvinden of Thompson, ND, Larry (Ginny) of Watson, MN, Ardyce (Byron) Ellingson of Heimdal, ND, Bob (JoAnn) Hvinden of Rosemount, MN, Danny (Twyla) Hvinden of Williston, ND David (Denise) Hvindenof Bismarck, ND and numerous nieces and nephews and canine friends Dakota and Molly.
He was preceded in death by his father.
