BENTON - Florence Achorn, 75, of Benton passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Florence was born in Fort Kent on Sept. 3, 1933, the daughter of Alphie and Yvonne (Dubois) Bard.

For more than 30 years she provided day care for many local families. She loved to knit and was noted for knitting and donating hundreds of mittens to area charities. She was also well-known by local motorists for her morning and afternoon strolls.

Florence was a member of East Benton Community Club and also Clinton Exchange.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Achorn; sisters, Pat Lemieux and Marie Carie; and brothers, Armand, Emile, Leonide "Pete" and Albert Bard.

Florence is survived by a daughter, Ann Emery; a son, Michael Achorn and his wife, Judith; a grandson, Henry Emery; a granddaughter, Tina Emery and her husband, Kenric Rancourt; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Dylan Rancourt; sisters, Rena Lemieux, Rolande Folsom, Tony Audibert, and Rita Johnston; brothers, Roland Bard, Noel "Joe" Bard, and Lucien "Bobby" Bard; and many nieces and nephews.
