Augusta was the daughter of Abraham Johannesson and was born on the farm, Hemnes, in Nesna, Norway. She came to the US with her family in 1890 and settled in Irving, Minnesota. She married Ludvig Mehus (whom she had known in Norway) about 1892. They raised their family of 6 children first in Minnesota and then North Dakota. In the late 1920's Ludvig came on a visit to Tacoma and loved it & Commencement Bay. Augusta had to sell the farm and move out to Tacoma. Only the youngest son, Sandford was still at home then. Sandy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1931. Sadly, Ludvig died in 1936, and Augusta lived 21 more years. She sold the small farm in Summit to her oldest daughter & son-in-law, and she lived in a small cabin on the property until her death.
