David A. AMBROSE was the son of
• David AMBROSE Jr. (born about 1792, married 1825, died 1830-1832, son of David AMBROSE Sr. R.S. & his wife Elizabeth, who came from North Carolina to Effingham County) &
• Grace MORGAN AMBROSE WHEELER, "Gracy" (born about 1811, died 1854-1857, daughter of William MORGAN Sr. & Sarah BAILEY - Gracy became the first wife of Brinson WHEELER in 1834).
His only known sibling was Keziah E. AMBROSE (born 1825-1829), who became the wife of Stephen DOUGLASS in Effingham County in 1844.

In 1852 in Effingham County, David married S. Catherine E. WALLS, and they were the parents of thirteen children, born 1853-1881:
