Funeral services for Walter Gray Spears, 83, of Jeffersonville, who died in
Jacksonville, Fla, yesterday after a lengthy illness, will be held at 2 pm
Wednesday in the Mt. Zion Church.

The Rev. M.L. Moncrief will officiate and burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Spears was born in Twiggs County and had lived in Jeffersonville most of his
life with the exception of the lst two years in Florida. He was formerly the
owner of the Jeffersonville Telephone Company and a farmer. For many years he
was chairman of the Twiggs County Board of Education and a member of the City
Council. At one time he was Mayor Pro-Tem of Jefferson and a deacon in the
Jeffersonville Baptist Church.

Surviving are his widow, the former, Miss Cynthia Richardson; four sons, O.
Melton Spears, Jacksonville; Dan Spears, Milledgeville; George R. Spears,
Jeffersonville; and W. G. Spears, Jr. Miami; four daughters, Mrs. Paul Kinsey,
Punta Gorda Fl; Mrs. J. Hugh Kinsey, Ft. Myers, Fl; Mrs. David Cape, Macon, and
Miss Faye Spears, Atlanta; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and
two sisters, Mrs. Edward Stevens and Mrs. Julian Lee, both of Jeffersonville.
