Charles Blackman, 85, of 1120 S. Ledford St., Harrisburg, died 4:37 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville, Tenn.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Gaskins-Jones Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Chris Winkleman officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at the funeral home.

He was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Harrisburg to Calvin and Jewel (MacPherson) Blackman. On June 5, 1943, he married Vivian LaVoyce Blackman, who preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1992.

He was a retired business owner of Blackman and Blackman Inc. and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Harrisburg Masonic Lodge No. 325, Ainad Temple Shrine, Harrisburg Kiwanis Club, former curator of the Saline County Museum, past president of the Saline County Historical Society, past president of the Saline County Genealogical Society, past Lt. Governor of Illinois-Eastern Iowa II District of Kiwanis, founder and instructor of the Little Egypt Cloggers, founder of Southeastern Illinois Heritage Dancers and member of the Illinois Tourism Board.

He is survived by a son, Greg (Josette) Blackman of Farragut, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Trisha (Jeremy) Ford of St. Charles, Mo., Christen (Christian) Ferrer of Johnson City, Tenn., and Stephanie Blackman of Farragut, Tenn.; and a great-granddaughter, Josephine Ford of St. Charles, Mo.
