The Notes of Solomon

Stephen Minor died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. S. Stephenson, two miles west of town, August 31, 1913, at the age of 82 years and 21 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Phoebe Ann Gifford and to this union were born twelve children. His wife and six children preceded him to the other world. He leaves one sister, six children, 17 grand children and 13 great grand children, also a host of friends to mourn his departure. He was converted at the age of 17 years and lived a faithful Christian life until death came. Funeral services were held in the U. B. church Tuesday at 10 o'clock in the morning, being conducted by the Rev. Manion who used for his text the 24th verse of the 17th chapter of John. Interment was made in the Presbyterian cemetery.

OBITUARY

Stephen G. Minor was born Aug. 10 1830 and departed this life Aug. 31 1913, at Anna Stephenson’s Solomon, Kansas, at the age 83 years, 21 days. At the age of 27 he was united in marriage to Miss Phoebe A. Gifford and to this union were born 12 children, 6 of this number and his wife preceded him to their heavenly home, his wife departed this life May 20, 1880.

He has one sister living, Sarah Jane Tucas, Indianapolis, Ind., and 6 children, Anna Stephenson, Solomon, Kansas; Amanda Hand, Rosenburg, Texas; Bertha Munston, Menton, Kansas; Alice Minor, Solomon, Kansas; Charles Minor, Waukepan, Ills.; Elmer Minor, Broomfield, Colo., all were present at the funeral.

Mr. Minor was grandpa of 17 grand children and 13 great grand children.

He was converted at the age of 17 and united with the M. E. church. Some years after he transferred his membership to the U. B. church to which he had been a loyal and true member to the end. One of his favorite hymns was, “Wont That be Glory Over There.”

Funeral services were held in the U. B. church. Rev. Manion the Pastor preached the funeral sermon from the following scripture, lesson Rev. 21, text St. John 17:24 and 1 Cor. 2:9. Songs, “Nearer My God to Thee,” “Looking This Way,” “Asleep In Jesus,” and “Beautiful Beckoning Hands.” Interment was made in Prairie Mond Cemetery, Chas. Whitley, the undertaker in charge.

The pall bearers were:—G. N. Havener, J. A. Havener, H. A. Dilling, Wm. Bartell, J. McKenzie and M. Wright.
