Alfonso Cardenas Romero, 95, of Amarillo died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009.

Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in Angel Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Monsignor Rex Nicholl as celebrant. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur St.

Mr. Romero was born March 21, 1913, in Puerto de Luna, N.M., to Juan and Juanita Romero. He moved to Amarillo in 1962. He was married to Louisa Arias, the love of his life, for 68 years.

He enjoyed being outdoors and working with his hands. He would help anyone who needed help. He was a very kindhearted man who enjoyed spending time with his family and playing scratch-off lottery.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Jose Romero, Ignacio Romero and Gilbert Romero; and two sisters, Eufemia Ocana and Marcella Romero.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; two daughters, Judy Quintero and husband Willie and Lorraine Gonzales and husband Adam, all of Amarillo; three sons, Tony Romero, Jimmy Romero and Alfonso Romero Jr., all of Amarillo; a sister, Ageda Candelaria of Amarillo; 21 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
