Melanie was the oldest child of Elijah and Sarah (Allison) Skidmore.

Between 1844 and 1863 Chesley and Melanie had eleven children; daughters Sarah (Ivey), Leannah (Jowell), Amanda (Conner), son Clinton (Humphreys), twins Dickey and Lisey, daughter Martha (Shields), son Oliver, daughters Valina (Palm), Sabrina (Jackson), and Columbia (Holcombe).

Burial at the Dobbs Valley Cemetery was a 1936 re-interment undertaken by the youngest daughter, Columbia. Melanie is my 2g-grandmother.
