Amarette Naureen Herman, 77, Boise, died 10 November 2008 at her home. She was surrounded by her family and beloved pets. She was born 29 May 1931 in Carbo, Virginia, the only child of French Gilbert and Bess Kiser Gilbert. She graduated from Richlands High School in 1947, received an A.A. in Business and Accounting from Lees-McRae Jr. College in Banner Elk, North Carolina in 1949 and a B.S. in Business Administration from Concord College in Athens, Virginia in 1952. She served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1959 where she met her future husband, Lou Herman. Upon Lou's retirement from the Navy, they moved to Salmon in 1959, first living at the Colson Creek Ranch below Shoup, later moving to the town of Salmon. In 1969, she returned to summer school, earning her M.S. in Counseling and Guidance from Western Montana College in Dillon, Montana in 1972. She worked for the Salmon School system, first as a Business Teacher, then as Guidance Counselor until 1985. After the death of her husband in 1985, she moved to Boise, Idaho where she worked as a Test Specialist for the Military Entrance Processing Station from 1985 until her retirement in 2002. She will be greatly missed, for her humor, love for her family and friends, and her ever-present crossword puzzles in progress. She spent her retirement years finally reading all those books that she hadn't had time for before. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lou Herman and her son, Tom Herman. She is survived by Patricia Herman of Boise, Ed and Rose Herman of Salmon, Alexia Brongardt of Hay, Kansas, Sam Brungardt of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sue Lee of Salmon, Luke Adams of Boise, Christina Adams of Boise and Paulie and Bailie Adams of Wasilla, Alaska. Graveside services were held 20 November 2008 at the Salmon Cemetery under the direction of the Salmon River Funeral Chapel and full military honor services were by the Lloyd Shaw American Legion Post #67 of Salmon. Arrangements were under the direction of the Salmon River Funeral Chapel.
