Lock Jaw Followed Injury

Charles Treu died at Hope Hospital

Township Road Supervisor Dropped a Brick on One of His Toes a Week Ago - Was Life-Long Resident of County.

Charles Frederick Treu, thirty-six years of age, all his life a resident of Allen county, and road supervisor for Wayne Township, died at 10 o'clock Sunday morning at Hope Hospital, of lockjaw. About a week ago while unloading brick, Mr. Treu was injured on the great toe of the right foot when a brick slipped from his hands and fell upon the member. The injury was considered slight at the time and Mr. Treu paid no attention to it.

Within a few days, however, symptoms of blood poisoning appeared and later lockjaw developed. On Saturday the condition of the patient became so alarming that he was removed to Hope Hospital for treatment. In spite of the efforts of skilled physicians, however, he grew rapidly worse and died in great agony.

Mr. Treu resided with his family on Piqua avenue, just outside the city limits. He was born in Wayne Township, August 23, 1868. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Pearl, Elsie, Garnet, Cleo, and Edith Treu.

Other relatives are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Treu, of Piqua avenue, and these brothers and sisters: John and George Treu, Mrs. John Blood, Mrs. Henry Lee and Mrs. Mark Ormiston, all of Wayne township.

The decedent was a man of many fine qualities and was widely known in and about Fort Wayne. The funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the residence.
