Walter W. Steed Took Lead

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 3-Funeral arrangements were being made today for Walter W. Steed, 81, a director of the Clearfield state bank, who was killed Tuesday when struck by an automobile here.
Mr. Steed was a former Davis county commissioner, and was for many years a business civic and religious leader of Davis county. At the time of his death he was living in Salt Lake City.
He was also once a director of the Davis and Weber Canal company, and former director of the Davis County bank.
For 30 years he was a member of the high council of South Davis L. D. S. stake.
He was one of the county's pioneer reclamation and irrigation leaders and also was interested in canning, hardware, mercantile and lumber businesses.
Mr. Steed was born in Mona, Utah, May 29, 1858, a son of Thomas and Laura Reed Steed, and moved to Farmington when he was a young man. He retired and moved to Salt Lake City in 1924.
Surviving are his widows, Mrs. Alice Clark Steed and Mrs. Lillie Sandberg Steed, both of Salt Lake City; 10 sons, Glenn W., Paul and Lynn Steed of Salt Lake City; Rulon Steed of Logan; Marion S. Steed of Provo; T. Joseph Steed of Syracuse; Walter W. Steed. Jr. of Clearfield; Milton, Newel and Woodruff Steed of Antimony, Garfield county; 10 daughters, Mrs. Laura Walker, Mrs. Elsie Smith, Mary and Hazel Steed, all of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Vern Steed Payne and Mrs. Rhoda Harker of Idaho; Mrs. Alice Larsen and Mrs. Ruth Hansen of Garland; Mrs. Ireta Cook of Syracuse, and Miss Ora Steed of Iowa; a brother, Ira E. Steed of Farmington, and a sister, Mrs. Fannie L. Meadows of Farmington.
