Claiborne Allred was the youngest of 18 children born to John Allred and Sarah Spencer. Four sons and eight daughters lived to be grown and most of them to a ripe old age. One daughter died when nearly grown. The other five died in infancy or early childhood. They are all buried with their father and mother in the Trogdon cemetery. Claiborne and his wife, Orpha are buried in the Franklinville Methodist Cemetery on Cedar Falls Road west of Franklinville (see photo).

In early manhood, Claiborne Allred married Orpha S. Russell, daughter of Samuel and Leah Burgess, and settled at his grandfather, William Allred's, old home on the hill near Bush Creek. There most of his children were born. Later he built a home about a half mile north of his father's house. In that house Brazilia Caswell ("B.C.") Allred was born, and in that house Claiborne and Orpha both died. Elizabeth Allred died there of measles when a bit over two years old.
