Howard C. Carter
Howard C. Carter, 46, of 813 Park Ave., electrician for the past 11 years, died Friday while on vacation at Garden City Beach.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. J. K. Lawton. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters Funeral Home.
A native Florentine, Mr. Carter was a son of LeRoy E. Carter, now living in Florence and the late Corasena Oliphant Carter.
He spent his early life in Timmonsville and was a graduate of Timmonsville High School. He was also a graduate of Coyne Electrical School of Chicago, Ill.
Prior to coming to Florence in 1950, he owned and operated Carter's Electrical Appliance Co. in Timmonsville. He was employed eight years by Carolina Light & Power Co.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, past president of the Men's Brotherhood and was a member of the Baptist Training Union of the church. Mr. Carter was a Mason and member of Benton Lodge 26, Timmonsville; a York Rite Mason and member of the Florence Commandery 10, K. T.; Campbell Chapter 31, R.A.M.; Cephas Council 13, R.& S.M.; a Shriner and member of Omar Temple, Charleston. He was also president of the local union of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Surviving in addition to his father are his widow, Mrs. Howard C. Carter of Florence, formerly Miss Louise Myers of Elim; one son, Howard C. Carter Jr. of Florence; two brothers, LeRoy E. Carter Jr. of Darlington and Walter S. Carter of Timmonsville.
