James D. Calder

James D. Calder was born at Coxsackie, Green (sic) county (sic), N.Y., October 19, 1842, and moved with his parents to La Prairie Center, Marshall county (sic), Illinois in 1851.

He was united in marriage to Mary E. Vincent, October 30, 1867. To this union five children were born: Sarah E. Goodnough of Thornburg, Iown (sic); W.D. of Bancroft, Kansas, Mrs. Gertrude Richardson, of Chicago; Fred. C. and Mrs. F.F. Twinem of Hardy.

He was of a family of eleven brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded him but one brother and three sisters.

He came to Nebraska in the spring of 1889 and has resided near Hardy ever since. In early life he became a member of the M.E. church (sic) to which he was a member at the time of his death.

He was a home lover and kind to everyone. Besides the children and brothers and sisters mentioned above he leaves to mourn his departure a faithful companion and helpmate, several grandchildren and a host of friends who will hold his memory as a treasure through the years to come.

The deceased had been in failing health for some months, but was only bedfast a few weeks, and departed this life at 8 p.m. July 8, 1918 at the ripened age of 75 years, 8 months, 20 days.

The funeral services were conducted by his pastor from the home at 10 a.m. Wednesday, and the body was laid away under a bank of beautiful flowers in the Hardy cemetery (sic).
