Their marriage license was filed on Apr 21, 1812 in Madison, Madison County, Virginia, and the marriage was solemnized by John Garnett on May 14, 1812 in Accomac, Accomack County, Viirginia. He was born in Virginia and likely died prior to the 1830 census.

Their marriage license was recorded in an oath to the governor of Virginia:

"Know all men by these presents that one David Lockhart and Drury Jackson are held and firmly bound unto James Barbour Es. Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made to the said governor and his successors in office, we bind ourselves and each of our heirs, executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 21st day of April 1812.

"The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a Marriage, shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound David Lockhart and Tomsey Jackson.

"Now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full favor and virtue.

"Signed David Lockhart and Drury Jackson (his mark)."

In the 1830 census for Virginia, Culpeper County (Roll 197, page 111), the T. Lockert family consisted of one male 10-14 (John W., 12), one male 15-19 (Drury Jackson, 16), one female under 5 (Matilda A., 2), two females 5-9 (Elizabeth, 9; and Rachel, 7), two females 10-14 (Mary Ann, 14), and one female 30-40 (Tomsey, 45).

Rappahannock County, Virginia was formed in 1833 from a part of Culpeper County, Virginia.

On Sep 17, 1834, Tomsey bought land in Rappahannock County, Virginia. The transaction was recorded in the Rappahannock County Land and Property Deed Book Vol A-B, pp 436-437:

"Thomsey Lockhart of Rappahannock Co, Va bought land from James Baldick and Elizabeth his wife it being a fifth part of land of which William Bryant decd possessed and now in the occupancy of the afore named Thomsey Lockhart: this land was leased by Jonas Saffer from the afor named William Briant and from him to David Lockhart containing 120 A.

"Indenture of Bargain & sale from James Baldick & Elizabeth admitted to be record in Rappahannock Co. Clerks office."

On Mar 11, 1835 Tomsey purchased another 120 acres. The transaction was recorded in the Rappahannock County Land & Property Deed Book B, pp 237-238:

"Aquilla Bryan of the State of Ohio of the one part and Thomsey Lockhart, Rappahannock Co, Va of the other part.

"Bryan convey to said Thomsa Lockhart his interest in land lying in the county of Rappahannock and situated on the side of the Oventop Mt, adjoining the lands of John Hopkins, being the same tract of land that belonged to William Bryan, and which was leased by him to Jonas Saffer & contains 120A.

"19 Aug 1835 Indenture of Bargain & Sale was admitted to be record in Clerks office of Rappahannock County court."

In the 1840 census for Virginia, Rappahannock County (Roll 575, page 10, left side), the Tompsey Lockhart family consisted of one male 20-29 (John W., 22), one female 10-14 (Matilda A., 12), and one female 50-59 (Thomsey, 55).

In the 1850 census for Virginia, Rappahannock County (Roll 972, page between 147 and 148), the Tompsey Lockhart family consisted of Tomsey Lockheart, 65, value of real estate 500; John W., 32; Rachel, 26; Margaret Stowers, 50; and Margaret Stowers, 31. All were born in Virginia. The family was listed immediately prior to the William Scott family. Tompsey Lockheart's daughter Matilda was listed as his wife, age 22.

On Oct 22, 1850, both of the deeds described above were delivered to John W. Lockhart.
