Located in Wabash County in 1834. One of the first permanent settlers in Chester Township.
Mr. Abbott was a self-made man, at the age of eight years, he was "bound out" to a slave-holder in North Carolina, with whom he remained until eighteen years old, running away from his master at that time, and escaping into Tennessee, where he was married in 1799 to Catherine Tillman.
In 1805, he removed to Preble County, Ohio, where he purchased and improved a farm, and reared ten children.
Mr. Abbott, served under Gen. Wayne in the War of 1812, and his father served in the Revoluntionary War.
