OBITUARY - News-Journal, North Manchester (IN) - February 21, 1906
Harvey H. Cook, son of Thomas and Susannah Cook was born March 5, 1839 in Chester township, Wayne county, Ohio, and moved with his parents to this locality in October 1844.
He was united in marriage to Matilda S. Johnson of Rochester in 1868. To this union was born three children, two sons and one daughter. His wife died December 6, 1899.
Mr. Cook was married to his now bereft companion on November 22, 1901. He departed this life at his home near the college after a long illness on February 13, 1906, aged 68 years, 11 months and 8 days.
He leaves besides a wife, Mary J. Cook, one daughter, Mrs. C.A. Lower of Richmond, two sons, Frank Cook of California and Marshall Cook who is engaged in government service at St. Michaels, Alaska; four brothers, Thomas and S.W. Cook of this place, and George and D.F. Cook of Rochester, and many friends to mourn his death.
The deceased was a soldier in the war of the rebellion and served nearly four years. He was shot through the right lung and the ball was extracted just above the right hip.
In his death the family has lost an affectionate husband and father, and the community of a highly respected citizen.
On account of the wife not being able to go to the church, a short funeral service was held at the house before going to to the Christian church were the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. B.F. Kemp at two o'clock on Thursday afternoon. Burial in Swank cemetery.
