In June,. 1850; the RILEY and DAKIN family started from Canada for Wisconsin. By wagon they traveled sixty miles to Port Huron, where they took passage on a boat and reached Sheboygan. Journeying by wagon to Fond du Lac, Wis., Amos RILEY and his brother-in-law Amos DAKINS, built a sailboat, on which they sailed up Lake Winnebago and the Wolf river, as far as Fremont in 1850-1851. Here he made a claim on property in section 27. He lived in Fremont for many years, once moving to Milwaukee for work and in his old age he moved to Buena Vista township, Portage county. Near his dau. Eva. He had purchased several acres to cut for wood. among some of his purchases were in 1858 Waushara 42.67 acres, 1862 Waupaca likely a house or lot, and in 1862 Waupaca 94.83 acres.
They had three children:
