James Caldwell, son of, Joseph Caldwell.

James Caldwell was the son of Joseph Caldwell, who with his family, migrated in 1769 from Derry Ireland to Sherman's Valley, Perry Co., PA. About 1780 he came West and settled in Sewickley Creek Westmoreland Co., PA.

Mathew, Polly, Joseph Jr., David and Andrew Caldwell.

James Caldwell married Sarah Byram on February 19, 1784 in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania. Sarah Byram is the daughter of Edward and Phoebe Ann (Coe) Byram.

James Caldwell enlisted February 18, 1776 as a private in Captain John Nelsons Company. He returned to Westmoreland County after the sureender of the British at Yorktown in 1781.

He married Sarah Byram, who was born February 13,1763. Sarah Byram was the eldest child of Edward Byram. At an early age her father, Edward Byram, moved with his family to the neighborhood of Fort Pitt, now Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and on the 7th of April, 1779, during the Revolutionary, he and one daughter Abigail, (Sarah's sister), were captured by the Indians as told in the book "Abby Byram and Her Father".
