James P. Mahan was born October 30, 1859, died December 12, 1944, having lived 85 years 1 month, and 13 days. He was a son of W. C. and Sallie Mahan who were among the early pioneers of Putnam County,
TN.
Mr. Mahan was married to Miss Maggie McCaleb in 1882 and to this union was born 6 children, 4 girls and 2 boys, all of whom survive. Mrs. Maggie Mahan preceded him in death by many years, leaving him
the care and protection of the children.
He was later married to Miss Leona Farris in 1906 and to this union was born 1 daughter, who now lives in CA, and could not be with her father and family during his illness and death.
Mr. Mahan was never united with any denominations as to church affiliations but he professed a strong belief in Christianity and lived a very devoted and outspoken Christian. He always active in any activities for an uplifting benefit to his community and fellow man, he was a good, kind, loving husband, an affectionate father. He will be missed. He is a great loss to his family and to the community where he has lived for more than half a century.
