Hattie Bakke, 98, died on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, November 18, 2005 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday.

Hattie Holmestad was born on April 6, 1907 in Strathcona, MN, the daughter of Ole and Johanna (Landro) Holmestad. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith in Strathcona and attended Strathcona Country School, walking seven miles to school.

Hattie was united in marriage on March 20, 1926 to Alfred C. Bakke in Crookston, MN. The couple lived in Minneapolis for a time before moving to International Falls, then to Thief River Falls. The couple then moved to a farm near Grygla, where they raised their nine children. Hattie and Alfred moved back to Thief River Falls, where Hattie worked at Arctic Cat and Pennington Hotel.

She enjoyed baking, reading, watching soap operas, gardening, especially watching her Lady Slippers and Orchids grow.

Hattie is survived by eight children: Charles (Kay) Bakke of Aniston, AL, Harriet Kiesow of Grygla, MN, Marian Bakke of Edmonds, WA, Donna (Henry Bach) Martinson of Bloomington, MN, Robert Bakke of West Minster, CO, Arlen (Bernice) Bakke of Yukon, OK, Byron (Kathy) Bakke of Braham, MN and Patricia (Ronald) Braaten of Thief River Falls, MN; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and some great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in July of 1976; one child, Jean Andress; sons-in-law, August Kiesow, Donald Martinson and Richard Jorgenson; daughters-in-law, Vivian Bakke and Alice Bakke; four grandchildren; brothers, Obert and Arnold Holmestad; and sisters, Nellie Arndtson and Tracey Midtgaard.
