Her birth records indicate she was born in Fentress County in KENTUCKY but is now listed as TN. This is due to a state line dispute.
Mother is Elizabeth (Eliza or Liza) Jayne Trammell.
Her momma's husband was William Robinson, however, she may be illegitimate. Two more children were born to Liza AFTER William's death. She was about 3 months pregnant with Melda when William died. So, she was either a camp follower, he went AWOL (which I have found no record of either) or she had already taken a lover of which I believe to be Cherokee (per my mother).
