In 1941, Harold entered the United States Army serving in Alaska, New Zealand and the South Pacific with the Corps of Engineers.
On September 23, 1943, Harold married Marjorie Garlick in Parsons, Labette County, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong had five children, Jay, Ronald, Donna, Joannie, and Judy.
In 1945 Harold received his discharge from the service and returned to Coffeyville with his family. The family remained in the Coffeyville area before moving throughout the Midwest due to Harold's career as a construction welder.
After his retirement, the couple established their home in Texas before moving to Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas about 1995. His last residence of record was in Quenemo, Osage County, Kansas. Mr. Armstrong enjoyed restoring antique cars during his retirement years. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union Local No. 339 of Coffeyville.
Harold Joseph Armstrong, 75, died April 6, 1998 at Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas. Funeral services were held in the Ford-Wulf-Bruns Edgewood Chapel with burial in the Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery of Coffeyville under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Service of Coffeyville, Kansas.
