Vance Arterburn was born on the J. R. Wilhoit farm, three and one-half miles south of this city March 6, 1848. Died at his residence on East North street in Kansas, on April 24, 1900.

In 1858 he removed with his parents to Young America township, where they resided until 1866. At this date they returned to their former home in this township.

The deceased was married to Miss Caddie Green at Salem, Ind., in 1870. Their wedded life was of short duration, as she only lived about two years--dying June 27, 1872. To this union no children were born. Oct 18, 1876 he was united in marriage with Miss Angie Hanks, of this city. This wife and two children, Bruce and Zink survive him.

In 1887 he removed to Ashmore where he resided until 1888, at which time he returned to this city, where he has since resided. He has worked at barber and jewelers trades for the past nineteen years.

He united with the Christian church at Pleasant Hill in 1869 and has since that time lived a Christian life. He removed his membership to the church in this city in 1880.

The funeral services were conducted at the family residence in this place on Wednesday, April 25, 1900, by Rev. S. M. Thomas. Following which the interment was made at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
