Nellie was the daughter of John D. Smith and Flora Houston. She married John Currie on March 19, 1912 in Sioux city, IA. They were the parents of Dorothy, Wallace, Donald, and Robert.

Contributed by Rich - Nellie was born Feb. 3, 1890, in Wall Lake to John and Flora (Houston) Smith. She attended country school and high school in Wall Lake, graduating in 1909. She taught country school before her marriage.

She married John Currie March 19, 1912, in Sioux City. They lived on a farm near Odebolt They later moved near Sac City in 1926 and then retired in Sac City. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Schaller, in recent years, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Sac City for many years. She also did volunteer work for cancer research.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in October 1964; three sons — Wallace, Donald and Robert; and eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a daughter — Dorothy Griffin, Schaller; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law — Barbara Currie, Peoria, Ill., and Elsie Currie, West Des Moines.
