She was reared and educated in Ellensburg and had lived in Yakima since 1943. She married William Leslie Murphy and was the mother of one daughter, Marguerite. In 1930, Lila, her husband and one year old daughter were living in Cle Elum. She left her husband about 1934; he returned to his native Canada. She next married Ted Martin and the family can be found in the 1940 Yakima County census. The couple divorced. She was a housekeeper at the Chinook Hotel until retiring in 1974. In her latter years, she lived in a senior citizen complex in Moxee. When niece Doris and her daughter Margie would visit her, she would talk about family and all would go out for Chinese food. Doris's daughter recalls on one instance with Aunt Lila at a Yakima restaurant. Lila switched Margie's mother's fortune with one she felt was a more appropriate message for her niece. When Doris returned to the table, Lila feigned great surprise when the fortune was read. She never told her that she had switched the fortune.
Lila was 79 years, 3 months and 20 days old when she passed away in Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. The Yakima Herald-Republic, March 24, 1989, noted that she had died two days earlier on a Wednesday morning. Survivors included a daughter, Marguerite Jorgensen of Yakima; two grandchildren, Daniel Jorgensen of Paterson and Janice Jorgensen of Norwood, Colorado; a sister, Mrs. William R. (Mable) Johnston [sic] of Tacoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Teddy Kinkade. Memorial services were held at 1:30 PM Saturday, March 25, 1989 in Shaw & Sons Memorial Chapel. The family suggested that if desired, memorials be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
