The Deseret News (Salt Lake City, UT) - Gladys Allsop Schiffman, age 92, died January 7, 2004. She was born January 12, 1911, in Smithfield, Utah to Thomas and Sylvia (Peart) Allsop. She married Melvin Owen Schiffman November 3, 1926, in Preston Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She was raised and educated in Smithfield, Utah. Although she was a homemaker most of her adult life, she worked as a clerk at Hill Air Force Base for eight years. An active member of the LDS Church, she served as a visiting teacher, taught in the Relief Society for many years, and was a temple worker in the St. George Temple for nine years. She has lived in Smithfield, Logan, Clearfield, Moab, and St. George, Utah and in Mesa, Arizona. Family survivors include one daughter and four sons; Letha Sue (Garth) Clay of Bountiful, UT; Donald O. (Carol) Schiffman of Orem, UT, DeMarr (Patricia) Schiffman of Sandy, UT, Melvin L. (Jean) Schiffman of Clearfield, UT and Norman H. (Beverly) Schiffman of Mesa, AZ; 25 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren and eight second great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2004, at 12 noon at the Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St. Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held at the mortuary from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Smithfield Cemetery.
