Gertrude Elizabeth Jacobs Olson, daughter of Elizabeth Jacobs Olson & Shure Dale Olson, b. 8 apr 1851 d. 22 Jun 1853; Shure Dale Jacobs Olson, son of Sarah Ellen Jacobs Olson, b. 12 Nov 1853, d. 21 Nov 1853. Buried B-5-2-1W and B-5-2-2W, respectively. Gravesite of Gertrude Elizabeth Jacobs Olson & Shure Dale Jacobs Olson located about 200 feet, more or less, due South of family burial plot. The name of child "Shure" is misindexed in sextant records as "Baby Shume." Location was site of earliest burials in Salt Lake City cemetery, identified in the death certificates as the "Great Salt Lake Desert."

Olson, Born 11 Feb 1831, Died _____" NOTE THAT THIS FAMILY BURIAL PLOT DOES NOT HOLD THE GRAVES OF ALL OF THE CHILDREN OF SHURE DALE OLSON & HIS WIVES ELIZABETH & ELLEN. ADULT SURVIVING CHILDREN WERE BURIED ELSEWHERE --with the sole exception of Jacob Olson who was unmarried & possibly disabled in some degree (& whose grave was not marked). Changes to the original surface of the grave marker included adding the death date of Sarah Ellen Jacobs Olson. The original stone was refaced for the reason that only the south face was legible (even using rubbings) and the surfaces which were removed were illegible & included unintelligible references to children not buried in the family burial plot. For this reason, the family grave stone was re-engraved to provide the location of the two children who had been named on the stone (Shure Dale Olson and Gertrude Elizabeth Jacobs Olson), but buried as small children nearby. The reuse of the name "Girtrude Amelia Olson" on the former surface of the original grave marker obscured the existence and death of 1 other daughter, named "Gertrude,"only one of whom is buried in the family burial plot. When the original family grave plot stone was erected, likely everyone understood the references to other deceased children since they were close by. The original family plot marker appears to have been erected by the 2nd wife at the occasion of Shure Dale Olson's decease or perhaps earlier by Shure Dale Olson at Elizabeth Jacobs Olson decease (note the reference to Norway in Elizabeth's epitaph (but not in Ellen's epitaph) but well prior to the death of the second wife, Sarah Ellen Jacobs Olson, herself (note the absence of her death date). Also, the family burial plot (but not the stone marker) includes persons not within Shure Dale Olson's immediate family), including: Shure Dale Evans (infant grandson, (infant son of Emma Frances Olson Evans) as well as husband & wife: Rolland Loy & Ramona Loy (Ramona being the granddaughter of Shure Dale Olson and daughter of Minnie Olson Pickett). There is a small, broken and illegible remnant marker of shattered green stone adjacent to the family marker; it may have marked the grave of Jacob Olson or it may have predated the family marker; it cannot be determined. The original stone marker had a marble ball affixed on top; it fell and was discarded about 1985.

Original gravestone of Ole Jacobs Olson, first born child of Shure Dale Olson & Elizabeth Jacobs Olson, born 5 Nov 1848 in Ottawa, Ill. & died 26 Sep 1868 in Salt Lake City, Utah. (Note "O" on the stone, upper left side.) Ole Olsen (Olson) was the first born son of Shure Dale Olson and his first wife, Elizabeth Jacobs Olsen. Ole died at age 19 years. Elizabeth (died 1891) is buried next to Ole.
