Wounded in left breast, POW 4/6/1865 Burkeville/Sailor's Creek, VA.; confined 4/9/1865 Point Lookout, MD; Oath Allegiance, released 6/19/1865 Point Lookout, MD.
In April 1890, as a 43 year-old, he was living in Cook's Quarters, VA.
On 4/2/1911, living in Northumberland County, he applied for admittance into the Robert E. Lee Camp Soldiers' Home, Richmond, VA. due to "kidney disease and being otherwise infirm". He was approved 5/15/1911, ordered in on 7/5/1911, and admitted 8/31/1911. On 3/22/1912 he was discharged form the Home by his own request. He was readmitted 1/26/1917 and discharged again 2/25/1919. He was ordered back in 3/13/1920 and admitted 4/9/1920; died there.
The 47th Infantry Regiment was formed in June, 1861, with men recruited in Caroline, Middlesex, Essex, and Stafford counties. During February, 1865, the 47th and 55th Regiments were consolidated.
