This was my grandfather, or shall I say "missing grandfather"? In the 1911 Los Angeles City Directory (page 59) he is listed as Valentine Albers, because his birth name was Valentine, being born on Valentine's Day. In the directory he was listed as a Box maker and resided with my grandmother and their 2 daughters at 5210 Hooper Ave. Los Angeles, California. Some very few years after 1911 Grandfather disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again. Grandma had heard rumors that he had joined the army and also that he had another family (wife & kids) elsewhere. She never sought for divorce, and she never dated another man until her death in 1982, at the age of 94. My mother, Stella passed away in 1995 and my aunt in 1996, so for 2 or more lifetimes Grandfather's fate was never known to this family, until, a couple of years ago I was searching through Veteran Memorial Cemeteries and viola! The mystery was solved. He went off to war and died in battle as an American Hero in 1924. God rest your soul Grandfather!
