Ben Lewson was born Baruch Luzym in the small town of Wysokie-Mazowiecke (Vi-sook-uh Mah-zeh-vee-yetch), Poland on November 18, 1912, the son of Mendel and Sara Luzym, sibling of Rifkah, Cyril, Goldie, Irene, and York. He was a quiet boy and got his only education in Chader in Poland. He was drafted into the Polish army in 1930, became a rifleman, and returned two years later with a hearing loss that turned into deafness in his later years. Ben emigrated to America in the early 1940's with the rest of his family, changed his name to Lewson, and eventually settled in Los Angeles in the early 1950's. He lived in a house with his mother and three sisters just a few blocks from York, Helen, and Sam. Ben worked odd jobs in the garment industry most of his adult life. He never married and never really got into the American way of life. He kept to himself, never had a checkbook or credit card, paid cash for everything, had few if any friends, and never even learned how to drive. Ben lived his life in America as he was brought up in Poland – he was a religious man, kept a kosher home, went to services, quoted the Talmud, and observed all the Jewish holidays. He was famous for his very long and thorough seders while his sisters complained that the food was ready and everyone else complained that they were hungry. One by one his sisters died in the 1980's and Ben lived by himself in the empty house through the 1990's. As they got older and needed help, York, Helen and Ben moved to an assisted living facility in Fountain Valley to be near Sam and Stephanie. Ben lived there for four years, living to the ripe old age of 95, the oldest Lewson ever. He died peacefully in his sleep with a smile on his face, having felt fine the day before. He was buried at Home of Peace Cemetary in East Los Angeles alongside his beloved sisters Cyril, Irene, and Goldie.

He will be remembered as a quiet, gentle man who never needed much from life, and never complained about his lot. He always asked "How are you feeling?", always said "Give my regards to" whoever was back at home, and always thanked you profusely when you went out of your way to do something for him. He almost never asked for anything for himself and never wanted to be a bother to anyone else. He was the last of his generation and he will be missed.
