Raymond Alfred Marshall was born on November 12, 1895, in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana, to Charles D. Marshall born on April 23, 1868 and Estella (Stella) A. Jack born on November 5, 1874.
In 1900 Raymond (4) lived in Tipton, Cass County, Indiana with his parents, who farmed. He had one younger sister, Charlotte (1). His aunt Mary E. Marshall (18) a servant, and uncle Richard Marshall (13) in school were living at the farm. There was a boarder, William Helvie (72), living at the house.
In 1910 the family lived on Martin Road in Washington, Cass County, Indiana with his parents Charles (41) and Stella (35). He father was working on the home farm. Raymond in addition to his sister, Charlotte (11), had two younger brothers, Wilbur (9) and Gail Wayne (2). An uncle, Hugh V. Marshall was also living at the home and a laborer on the farm.
Raymond registered for the WWI draft on June 8, 1917. Raymond registered himself as tall and slender, gray eyes, and black hair. He was single and a farm laborer working for his father, Charles D. Marshall. He resided on Route 9 of Logansport, Indiana. He departed for France on May 25, 1918 aboard the ship Mercury from Newport News, Virginia with his Army unit, the 318th Field Hospital, 305th Sanitary Train, of the 80th Division . He returned as a Sergeant on the ship Rotterdam from Brest, France on May 20, 1919 and landed at Hoboken, New Jersey on May 31, 1919. On the journey over he used his father, Charles Marshall as his family point of contact at R.R. No.9, Logansport, Indiana and returning just listing Logansport, Indiana.
In 1920 Raymond (23), soldier and single, resided and patient at the U.S. General Hospital No. 19, in Swannanoa, Buncombe Township, North Carolina. The 1920 Census was recorded on January 27, 1920. This Army hospital opened in September, 1918 and under treatment reached 1,000 on January 1, 1919. By May it reached a peak of 1,175. The designed capacity was 1,500 beds. It was estimated 33% of the tuberculosis would be infirmary cases and 55% ambulatory but it developed about equally divided.
Raymond died in Walton, township of Washington, Cass County, Indiana on September 13, 1921 of pulmonary tuberculosis he had for three year. He is buried in the Ramer Cemetery, Walton, Cass County, Indiana. In the Record of Cass Circuit Court Wills proceeding recorded in Probate Order Book #44, Page 358, Raymond A. Marshall bequeathed all his property to his father Charles D. Marshall on July 21, 1921.
His father, Charles Marshall born in 1868, passed away on November 29, 1938 and buried in Ramer Cemetery.
Raymond’s mother, Estella Marshall born in 1874, passed on December 3, 1948 buried in Ramer Cemetery.
His brother, Wilbur J. Marshall born in 1900, passed away in 1962, and buried in the Ramer Cemetery.
His sister, Charlotte Marshall born on July 16, 1898 married Homer Carlton Martin born on January 23, 1896. Charlotte Martin passed on February 20, 1966 and Homer passed in October 1985 and are buried in the Ramer Cemetery.
His brother, Gail Wayne Marshall born on February 25, 1908, in Washington, Cass County, Indiana, passed away in Kansas on March 22, 1985. His burial location is unknown at this time.
