Grace Beatrice Schoenmaker, 99, of Mesick, Michigan, died January 17, 2006, in Marilla Township. She was born May 19, 1906, in Imlay City, the daughter of Charles and Rose (White) Burton.

Grace had owned and operated Jeri's Restaurant in Mesick in the early 1940's, the Mesick Bar in the 1950's – 1960's, the Green Turtle Bar in West Branch and the Village Inn in Empire. She had also been employed as a cook at Caberfae Peaks in Cadillac.

She was a lifetime member of the AmVets Post #120 in Mesick. In her spare time, Grace enjoyed working in her garden, playing bingo and playing Euchre. Grace also enjoyed cooking and canning, and was known for her pickled beets.

Grace was survived by: her daughter, Adella Anson of Copemish; 2 grandsons, Bruce Zampich-Anson of Mesick and Bradley (Rebecca) Anson of Mesick; 2 great-grandsons, Chad and Ryan Anson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by: her 1st husband, Wallace Shepard; her 2nd husband, Martin Schoenmaker; 1 great-grandson, Tyler Anson; 3 brothers, Charles, Earl and Eldon Burton; 1 half-sister, Lillian Neimeyer; and 2 half-brothers, Samuel and George Burton.

Funeral: United Methodist Church, in Mesick, with Reverend Lloyd Jewett officiating.
