DUANE P. MCGUIRE ESSEX JUNCTION - Duane P. McGuire beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. He was born in Burlington, on Oct. 16, 1936, the son of the late Reginald and Stella (Phelps) McGuire.

Duane lived in Essex his entire life and no matter where he traveled, Essex was always home. Duane met and married the former Shirley Bell of Hinesburg and together they raised five daughters. He loved and cherished his family. To him, there was nothing like the family gatherings, especially Sundays and holidays. He was always eager to "go along for the ride" anytime he thought he could help one of his kids. In 1977, Duane and Shirley established McGuire's Mobile Home Transport and Service, where they worked side-by-side right up to the end. Besides family, the business was his great passion. His work sent him traveling all over Vermont. He knew Vermont roads and towns better than anyone. He loved the people he met and hearing their stories. He connected with everyone, establishing many longtime customers and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley; and his children and their families. Diane and William McFarland, Dora and Elson Cote, Kristin and Warren Gagne, Sharon McGuire, and Karen McGuire; grandchildren Jessica and Tom Triujillo Jr., Jeremy McFarland, Lily Cote; and a great-grandson Tom Triujillo III; his loving sister Donna Ringuette; sister-in law Rose Raymond; two brother-in-laws Harold and Brenda Bell and Leo and Bobbi Bell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Patricia Alger, brothers-in-law Roger Ringuette, Clinton Alger Sr. and William Raymond.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 16, in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church.

Burial will be in the spring in Holy Family Cemetery. In Duane's memory donations may be sent in care of the Essex Rescue Inc., 1 Educational Drive, Essex Junction, VT 05452.
