Roy Willingham, Sr., 82, who grew up in Collingsworth County, died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, after a brief illness.

He was a retired rural mail carrier.

Mr. Willingham lived in Wellington a number of years, while serving Route 1, Quail. He was also a mail carrier out of the Dodson office and worked in the Wellington Post Office.

He had been a mail carrier 42 years before retiring in 1960, and in 1963, he moved to Abilene from Irving.

A leader in the Church of Christ here as well as in other towns where he lived, Mr. Willingham had been an elder in the church since 1938 and for 15 years after he retired, he preached as a local minister of the Church of Christ at Bangs and at Kiowa, OK.

He was a member of Central Church of Christ in Abilene.

Born November 18, 1899 in the Indian Territory, near what is now Wilson, OK, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. T.P. Willingham. He grew up in Collingsworth County. He was graduated from West Texas State University from Thorp Springs Christian College.

He married Eva Blevins, a member of the second permanent family at Quail, on April 17, 1919, at Quail.

Mrs. Willingham died May 30, 1977.

He then married Velma Jean Fleming January 7, 1978.

Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Trula Mae Brown of St. Maarten, N.A.; two sons, Dr. Roy Willingham, Abilene and Charles M. Willingham of Garland; two sisters, Mrs. Ina Jeffers of San Antonio, and Mrs. Edith Tibbles of Midwest City, OK; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
