After their father died (about 1872), the firm was sold and Uriah moved with his brother Harrison to Huntsville, Alabama, and then Nashville, Tennessee, where he worked in horse collar manufacturing.
Uriah was married twice, with both wives preceding him in death. He had a son, George Doolittle Taber, with his 1st wife, Mary, who died in Indiana, and 3 more children with his 2nd wife, Harriett, who died in Nashville, Tenn.
He lived in Nashville from about 1882 until the mid 1890's. He then lived a short while around 1900, in Union Vale, Dutchess County, NY with his daughter, Anna Grace Taber, a school teacher. By 1910, Uriah had moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and lived with his other daughter, Maria Gertrude (Taber) Clark and her family. He died in January 1918 in Ludlow, Hampden Co., Massachusetts, where he had lived with the Clark family.
