Elizabeth Jouett Allin Gabhart, 97, of "Clay Hill, " 433 Beaumont Avenue, died Friday, January 5, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

Born January 15, 1903 in Harrodsburg, she was a daughter of the late Ben Casey and Ora Ella Van-Arsdale Allin. She was the widow of Willard Gabhart.

She and her late husband restored and maintained Clay Hill, the home of Kentucky's Civil War governor, Beriah Magoffin and had a life-long concern for the preservation of Kentucky's historic sites. She was a homemaker and had been a member of the Harrodsburg Historical Society for many years.

She descended from Harrodsburg's first County Clerk, Thomas Allin, and the VanArsdales, some of the founders of the Dutch Reformed Church in America (Old Mud Meeting House).

She attended Mrs. Anderson's school and was a graduate of Miami College for Women in Ohio. She also taught school in Kentucky and Florida.

She was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include: a daughter, Ann Raymond Gabhart, Boston, MA; a son-in-law, David Friedman, Boston, MA; one sister, Mary Neal Terhune, Clewiston, FL; two nieces, Betty Wells and Bobbi Rensel; one nephew Curtis Allin.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 8, at the Harrodsburg Christian Church with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Wells, Michael Wells, Jason Wells, Curtis Allin, Jr., Curtis Allin III and David Quinn.

Memorials are suggested to The Ragged Edge Community Theater, Harrodsburg Christian Church or Harrodstowne Chorus.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
